The Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT)
The Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT) was introduced into the UK on 1st April 2022. The tax was designed to encourage the use of more recycled plastic and applies to all plastic packaging produced or imported into the UK that does not contain at least 30% recycled content. As it stands, only injection moulded products produced using 100% virgin material can be used for food packing applications. The rate of tax is currently at £223.69/tonne
